Spelling/THRASS

Spelling is one element of Literacy (Reading, Writing, Spelling). Accurate spelling will assist a student in both their Reading and Writing. The more thoroughly a student knows a word, the more likely it is they will be able to recognise it in unfamiliar texts, spell it, and use it appropriately in their own speech and writing. 

In Spelling Workshops THRASS is used as a tool to teach students the structure and pattern of the English language, and consistent strategies to spell words. Students will engage in Word Play activities when they reflect metacognitively on words, word parts, and the meaning of words.
